MORE MILK, MORE CANCER.

What is tick about milk? Is it the creamy liquid we see or the taste it puts in our mouth? For some people, the attraction is the protein and calcium we get to build our bones. But, before you drink your next glass of milk, here is a dossier on the havoc of milk and the facts about its myths.

Milk is rich with calcium, that important chief builder of our bones including the teeth. But Robert Kradjian, a breast surgeon in the United States, US, has said milk and other dairy products are dangerous to the body and progressively attract some kinds of cancer to the human system. “Calcium is good for the body. No doubt about the fact that milk is loaded with calcium. But, is it good calcium source for humans.” I think not. These are the reasons. Excessive amount of dairy products actually interferes with calcium absorption. Secondly, the excessive protein that the milk provides is a major cause of osteoporosis (bone disease) problem” he said.

So what is the best source of calcium and protein for human beings? Kradjian provides the answer. “Where do we get our calcium? From exactly the same place the cow gets the calcium; from green things that grow from the ground such as leafy vegetables. Vegetables protein has no cholesterol and has less saturated fat,” he said.

A report published in the International Cancer Journal has also given a damning report on excessive milk intake. Ovarian Cancer has been associated with milk consumption by workers at the Russel Park Memorial Institute, Buffalo, US. The report established that drinking more than one glass of whole milk or equivalent daily gave a woman 3:1 times risk over non-milk users. Researchers also studied the beverage habits of 569 workers who are lung cancer patients at the same institute. It was discovered that persons drinking whole milk three or more times daily had a two-fold increase in lung cancer risk when compared to those who never drink whole milk.
